Hi, my name is Gene Whisenand.  My good friend and business partner, Dan Gray and I own and operate Trident Firearms Academy, LLC.  We are based out of the San Joaquin County in Central California, but we travel quite frequently all around the nation.  We teach law enforcement officers skills that we believe will help them survive “On the street” and we teach civilian classes everything from very basic firearm courses to advanced courses with quite a few specialty courses tossed in for good measure.  For more information on Trident Firearms Academy, LLC please visit our website at www.tridentfirearms.com.

I am an active private investigator specializing in criminal investigations.  I have been many things in life; I have been a business owner, a little league coach, a Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts, a Sailor (Actually a Navy Combat Corpsman attached to the Marine Corps – I was more Marine than Sailor – I got to dress up like a tree and sleep in the mud just like my boys) and a firearms instructor.  I am a certified National Rifle Association (Law Enforcement Activities Division) – NRA (LEAD) for short – Firearms Instructor.  This is not my first teaching gig though.  When I was in the military I was an instructor for our Nationally Registered Emergency Medicine Technician course as well as the Emergency Vehicle Operations Course.  I assisted in the Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Advanced Trauma Life Support put on by our Command Education Department also.  As a result I think I am a pretty good instructor, and many of my students seem to agree.

I do not like the term “Expert”.  I would rather think of myself as a student of firearms.  I’ve spent most of my adult life studying firearms.  In the beginning I guess I studied the terminal effects of projectiles on the human body.  I then progressed into the mechanical devices used to fire those projectiles.  I have competed in IPSC, IDPA, High Power Rifle and Cowboy Action Shooting, to name a few.  Competition is good when you do not mistake it for real world training.

Dan and I have come to the conclusion that there is a lot of BS circulating about firearms.  We have found quite a few people who have purchased firearms and feel protected and prepared.  In the words of the dearly departed Colonel Jeff Cooper; “Owning a handgun doesn’t make you armed any more than owning a guitar makes you a musician.”  Along with that handgun, or any firearm, comes responsibility.  There are ethical and moral issues that accompany that firearm.  At Trident Firearms Academy we believe in helping our students with Gun Handling, Marksmanship and Mindset.  We want to be a resource for our students after they have graduated from our classes.

I will add more he as time permits and motivation prevails.

  1. Hi Geno,

It’s been a long time since I’ve read this kind of post from a hand gun expert. I like firearms. I used to hunt with an older friend when I was a teenager. That’s how I was introduced to firearms. I would love to hear more more from an expert like you. Will wait until your next post. See you!!

  2. Thank you very much for the kind words. I will have more soon. Just did a class (Tactical Handgun) over the weekend (Jan 9). On my site I will, eventually, put up a video and some photos.
